Greetings friends! Hope all is well in your world. I can hardly believe festival season is upon us once again. I have been very busy with teaching, writing, recording, gigging and somewhere in there, finding some balance at our beautiful new home in the country. From all of this hard work does come the fruits of our labor and I am so happy to let you all know about what’s been going on.
Start your Waterfront Blues Festival day out right on Thursday, July 4th where you’ll find the Robbie Laws Band on the North Stage from 1:15-2:30 pm. It’s always such an honor and a thrill to perform at the best blues festival around and I look forward to seeing you there.
We’ve also got an amazing event happening at the outdoor ampitheater on top of Mt. St. Helens (Johnston Ridge Observatory) on Saturday, August 3rd from 3:30-8:30 pm. This is a special benefit concert for the Science and Learning Center at Coldwater. The SLC is a great resource for schools, education groups and researchers interested in taking field trips and doing research at Mt. St. Helens. We’ve got quite a special line up for you with the Robbie Laws band featuring Dover Weinberg and Willis Moss, the fabulous Karen Lovely and one of our longtime favorites, Lloyd Jones. The mountain setting is unbelievably spectacular and this is a day you don’t want to miss, so come on up to the mountain and have a great time with us.
In other big news, I am super excited about the recent launching of my brand new website.. Of course you’ll find the standard fare of a music website, but what I’m most excited about is the introduction of ‘Online Live with Robbie Laws’ one-on-one web guitar lessons in addition to several new guitar classes and workshops held at my private studio in SE Portland. I’ll be holding a Songwriting for Guitar class every first Sunday of the month as well as several options for one day guitar workshops at the studio. Please do me a favor and check out the new site and let me know what you think. I want to give a special shout out to my man Chad Boston of designsbyboston.com for doing such a great job on the site. Highly recommended!
Lastly, the final touches are happening on the new album and we’re coming into the home stretch (“Thank God”). Between all of our hectic schedules, it’s been challenging at times to get this project completed. Fingers crossed, it looks like we’ll have an August release date later this summer, so keep your eyes out for that. I am feeling really good about this one.
I look forward to seeing you out and about enthusiastically supporting live music at our great local venues. Have a great time at the Waterfront Blues Festival!
Congratulations to Robbie Laws for winning his ninth Muddy Award for 'Best Electric Guitarist' in the Pacific NW by the Cascade Blues Association. This is Robbie's overall 21st Muddy Award from this organization. Way to go Robbie!!
We want to thank everyone who came out to The Trails End on October 15th to support The Robbie Laws Band's first Journey to Memphis fundraising benefit show. What a fantastic night! We are truly moved by the generous outpouring of donations and support that our friends, fans and new faces shared with us. Adding to the overall success of the night were some terrific items donated for our silent auction with some great bids offered up for the cause. Big thanks go out to Fred Morgan, Dan Dalton, Chris Alexander, Cindy Benda and The Trails End, Greg Johnson and the Cascade Blues Association.
We are preparing to do it all again in November. First up, we'll be at The Grapevine, a new SW Portland venue on Saturday, November 19th. The following week, the band will be holding our third J2M benefit show at Duff's Garage on Saturday, November 26th. We'll have a lot of great surprises in store along with more fantastic items offered up at the silent auction, so don't miss your opportunity to place your bids.
Your support is hugely appreciated and greatly needed to help The Robbie Laws Band get to Memphis to represent our region and to compete in the International Blues Challenge next February 2012. Looking forward to seeing you in November!
This is going to be an exciting show! On Wednesday, September 21st, I'll be performing with Marc Breitfelder & Georg Schroeter from Germany, the 2011 solo/due winners of the International Blues Challenge. They are on their last leg of their first American tour at Cozmic Pizza in Eugene. Show starts up at 7pm.
What is PG3??
On Sunday, August 7th, at the Mission Theater in Portland, Buko Magazine's 2nd Annual PG3 line-up is a full benefit for Oregon Music Hall of Fame to help dwindling music education programs in Oregon schools.
Each year Buko Magazine selects from the absolute best of N.W. guitar players in 3 different genres to play a cream-of-the-crop set of their own material, then duel it out on an all-star jam.
One blues master, one rocker and one special guest star we like to call, the "Wild Card".
Geoff Metts, Robbie Laws & Eddie Martinez are getting ready to rock your soul, soothe your blues and shred you into oblivion!
Backed by a stellar hand-picked backup PG3 band....
The mighty Kevin Rankin on drums!
Bassman extraordinaire, Jay Haser
and the "Fill-Meister" himself, guitarist, A.G. Donnaloia
This is going to be one show you do not want to miss!
